The Tent

My old plane ticket was set to bring me home today. I've spent so much of my life in this house, sometimes I forget it's only been a month since I arrived. Palestine can feel like a distant concept from my past, but this remains familiar:

The Tent

And for the Sheikh Jarrah-ians, I miss you, and I'm sending you my love.

  2. For me it has been six years since I came back from there. I also went by taxi and bus by Rafah crossing to Sinai and Egypt.

I still do not think I have all my feelings sorted out, from different experiences.

Although it seems far away, part of that is the illusion from people around me not realizing that it's not that far away at all, but right there; but they don't realize that. And they have an influence on me.

Here is a link to a story in the Telegraph about a guy who actually did put in a camera in his old eye-hole. I thought you might find it interesting.

  3. This is a real blog right here. I think the intimate drawing coupled with a heartfelt statement really does it for me, I'm glad you're back in full-effect, Emily.

  5. Emily -
As ever, your work is beautiful and fluid, simple and profound. I would like to e-mail/talk with you about a possible animation gig for you - I am making a short movie of a poem by the Indian poet(ess) Debjani Chatterjee - she writes in English and lives here in the not-so-U.K. - and I have already filmed/video'd her speaking the poem...It's an amazing poem - not long - full of womanhood! - and I just wonder if you might like to contribute some images or even animation to it...If this interests you, please leave a note at my blog - clickable via my profile...Thanks! And all good wishes, as ever, for your continued recovery and renewal - and to all your family.

  6. Ooops I kind of feel bad about that telegraph story thing because there is another side to the story of one-eye stuff being promoted around the hip-hop and popular music world these days which I was not taking into account. I mean you could still read it,
to know about it, but...be careful, okay, I don't like this stuff here.

So after thinking on it all for a month, and I understand this does not have to be a democracy, IMO FWIW I say go natural, and none of this bionic Avatar-like transhumanism stuff.

As it is you're one eye-patch away from being an anti for the old Moshe Dayan look. My one vote goes for that; this other stuff here makes me nervous.

  7. the way that you can convey emotions and demonstrate perspective without a whole ton of lines or detail while establishing your own distinct style is very impressive. so glad you're back. =)
